We Are Born To Be Brave Not Perfect

  • Losing her leg in a car accident could have destroyed her dream of becoming an Olympic athlete but despite her loss, she went on to become a triple gold medal paralympic athlete.
  • After 20 years struggling as a refugee barely able to provide for his family, he then went on to build an international multimillion-pound company.
  • Despite getting pregnant at the age of 12, she still went on to pursue her dream of graduating as a pilot.

Perfect people are those that seem to have all the odds in their favour and it only makes sense they should be the ones to possess what they want in life right?!The stories above are examples of  sheer bravery, not perfection. The stories above wouldn’t be as great a testament if all odds were in their favour.

The desire to be perfect can be crippling. We all have times where we don’t feel smart enough, pretty enough, creative enough, rich enough, qualified enough, fast enough etc which is okay. What’s not ok is to allow these to hold us back from going after what we want in life.

When God made you, he saw that you were good (Gen1:31). Flaws and imperfections are what make who you are. They make the story of your life more interesting and allow you to inspire others. Be proud of who you are, not ashamed of how people see you.If you know what you bring to the table even with your flaws don’t be afraid to eat alone. When you try things and succeed in spite of your flaws, you realise that your flaws are completely irrelevant. However, you will only discover this by going after the things you think your imperfections disqualify you from having.

As a Christian, I understand that God only asks me to brave hence why he says “fear not” 365 times in the bible. He never says be perfect because we are already fearfully and wonderfully made(Psalms 139:14).If you study the bible you find God has a funny way of using the flawed to show that He has distilled in us everything we need in this life. All we need to do is tap into it through bravery. He asks that we be bold and he will take care of the rest. You don’t owe anyone perfect but you owe it to God to be brave in order to possess what he has promised you.

Joshua 1:9

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

With love always,
